VC Home Care Assisting Our Veterans And Their Families

VC Home Care has teamed up with Aid & Assistance program to provide our services to wartime veterans and their surviving spouses, 65 years and older. Qualifying applicants may be entitled to a tax-free benefit called Aid and Attendance provided by the Department of Veteran Affairs.

The Benefit is designed to provide financial aid to help offset the cost of long-term care for those who need assistance with the daily activities of living such as bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, and transferring.

How Can VC Home Care Help You?

VC Home Care can help connect you to Aid & Attendance Benefits by assisting in the following areas:

  • Our team can connect you with a knowledgeable VA Accredited Agent to assist you prior to your filing for the Aid & Attendance. The agents advise claimants on their qualifications and the proper documentation needed to ensure they are reimbursed for the cost of home care.

  • Financial Assistance: Start your care right away. Aid and attendance benefits can provide financial assistance to help pay for the cost of care with VC HOme Care, while the claimant waits for VA benefits to be awarded.

  • In-Home Care: VC Home Care will provide assistance with activities of daily living in your own home.

What Are Activities of Daily Living?

A person may be considered Housebound or in need of Aid & Attendance if he or she can no longer perform the following daily activities without help:

  • Bathing or Showering

  • Dressing/Grooming

  • Eating

  • Toileting

  • Transferring

What Are Instrumental Activities of Daily Living?

  • Shopping

  • Food Preparation

  • Housekeeping

  • Laundry

  • Managing Finances

  • Handling Medications

  • Using the Telephone

  • Transportation for non-medical purposes

  • Grocery Shopping

In addition, VA Pension with Aid & Attendance may be granted if the claimant is suffering from dementia or Alzheimer's and requires regular care or assistance to avoid hazards or dangers in his or her daily environment.

VC Home Care works with Veterans and provides In-Home Care

The Aid & Attendance benefit is provided to cover long-term nursing or medical care that takes place in the home. Home care services for veterans that may be covered are listed above, but other services such as paying bills, providing transportation for other personal needs or other family members, or cooking and cleaning for other family members may not be covered. Your primary doctor will provide evidence that "regular" (scheduled and ongoing) care is needed.

The care attendant does not have to be a licensed health care professional, and there is no need to distinguish between medical and non-medical care, but claimants must be able to provide documentation to the VA that the person is paid for their services. The most efficient method of documentation is to create a formal care contract and weekly payment invoices; VC Home Care provides these documents. These costs can not be reimbursed by insurance or paid by others.

Prior to the application, arrangements for both care and payment should be made, and the claimant should schedule an appointment with his or her primary physician to determine if they are rated "Housebound" or in need of "Aid & Attendance." Aid & Attendance is automatically granted if the veteran or surviving spouse is a patient in a nursing home or is blind or has severe visual problems.
